Playing Up / Playing Down

The relevant age for each player is determined by his or her age as at midnight on 31st August of the relevant playing season. A child is permitted to play up in the age group above his or her chronological age group, with the exception of children who are 6 years of age after 31st August, who can only play in the Under 7 age group, and may not play in the Under 8 age group, for that playing season.

There is a special dispensation for children wanting to play down an age group and this is for children who have a disability or a significant physical developmental delay (SPDD) and would be placed at a substantial disadvantage (as a consequence of that disability or SPDD) if required to play in his/her prescribed age group.
